How old is your water heater?
The age is usually encoded in the serial number on the tank label. Many brands use a letter for the month (A = January) followed by two digits for the year, for example "G14" means July 2014. Formats differ by brand, so check the manufacturer's guide for yours.
Typical lifespan: a tank water heater commonly lasts around 8–12 years; tankless units often last longer. Water quality and maintenance matter.
Signs it may be time: rusty or discoloured hot water, rumbling or popping noises, moisture around the base, or running out of hot water sooner than before.
Safety: if you smell gas or see a leak near electrical parts, turn off the supply and call a licensed pro.
